A Press Association message from Paris reports the death of .Senator Lazare Weiller, aged 76 years. He was the inventor of the automatic, tapimeter and he introduced the telephone system to France.

Mk C. A Trotter, wko lias been a member of the Opunake Power Board sine© it was formed, and until recently held the position of chairman, forwarded his resignation to Friday’s meeting of the board. The resignation was accepted with regret, and the board decided to place, on record its appreciation of Mr Trotter’s service in the interests of the board and district.

The many friendis of Mr F. B. "Wylds, of Eilth'am, will learn with regret of the de'ath at Palmerston North last week of his father, Mr A. 11. Wylds, at the great age of 81 years. Mr Wylds was a pioneer settler who came to New Zealand as a youth of nineteen and had many interesting experiences, having been engaged in the flaxmilling, shipping and sawmilling industries. He had been fifty years in the district and had at one time owned three vessels trading between Australia and New Zealand.

A very pleasant function took place at the Savoy Tearooms on Saturday evening when a large number of friends and relatives assembled at the invitation of Mr and Mrs H. E. Harris to -.lebrate the coming of age of their youngest son, Bert. Visitors were present from Inglewood, Stratford, Ngaere, Eiltham, Kaponga, Manaia, Pate a, Wanganui and Oliavve. Dancing was the order of the evening, the music being supplied by Butler’s Orchestra. At the supper adjournment fully 120 sat at tiie tables and enjoyed the good things provided. Several toasts were honoured. After supper dancing was resumed. The Monte Carlo waltz was won i>y Mr and Mrs Ray Webb of Ngaere. and the lucky spot waltz by Miss M. Brough and Mr R. Thompson (Hawera). During the evening Mr Harris is the recipient of many valuable and useful present. Close on midnight the singing of Auld Lang Syne, cheers for the guest and his parents, concluded a very pleasant and enjoyable evening. The duties of M.C. was very creditably carried out by •Mr Charles Harris.
