EIGHTEEN MILE ROAD EACE. WON BY H. THORPE. With one. more race to be contested to complete the series of six events 1 fo: fire club’s silver cup and the. leather Availet donated by Mr G. W. b. Bell (tor runner-up), the club’s juniors on Saturday ran off an 18-mile road race round the Auroa block. Weather conditions were favourable for the nine riders concerned and fairly good times were recorded. The result was as follows:. H. Thorpe (2Amiu.) 49ium 30scc 1 N. Adlam (2imin) 49min 31sec ... 2 G. Williams (3smin) 50min 32sec .. 3 L. Sollicker (3Amin) 50min 33sec .. 4 K. Hosie (3Amin) GOrain 34sec 5 Fastest time: H. Thorpe, 49min 30sec. POINTS IN. SERIES'. N. Adlam, Hi points; H. Thorpe, 14; G. Williams, 12; L. Schieker, 10; R. Hosie, (i. Williams and Basie held the lead um-i til within half a mile of home, when they AA’orc overtaken by Sollicker, Thorpe and Adlam. In a good sprint for the line, Thorpe beat Adlam. by three parts of a length with Williams half a length away, about a wheel ahead of Schicker and Hosie, who finished almost on even terms. , The officials controlling the event avere Messrs A. Melville (starter and •timekeeper) and F. Area amsl H. W. Bocock (judges). The concluding junior race and the fifth of a series of six senior races for a- silvor cup (the club’s) and' leather Availot (presented by Mr G. W. S. Bell) are scheduled for Saturday next, when good fields for both events are anticipated. A handsome silver cup has been donated by Mr S. Watson, Te Iviri. Condition's of competition, for this trophy will be determined by the club. Active membership of the' club, approximating 40, still denotes healthy interest, and there is a strong probability of a pronounced increase during the coining season. ! The club’s- annual .meeting will be 'held during the next, fortnight, when a satisfactory balance-sheet will be presented to'' members. Attention is drawn to the Club’s second annual ball, to. be held in the Town Hall on Thursday next. An efficient and popular orchestra has been engaged, and a pleasant and entertaining evening’s relaxation is confidently assured.
