REDUCED’ ACTIVITY IN FELLMONGEIUNG INDUSTRY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, A.ug. 9. A deputation from the Aillianoe of Labour and the freezing workers asked the Minister of Agriculture to do something to relieve the position arising from the reduced activity in the fellmongermg industry, coupled with, the increase in”tha number of untreated skins exported. The Minister said, the situation had peculiar features. Not many more skills were .exported than formerly and it appealed as if the work was going to the freezing works. Men who had been thrown out of work must be employed somewhere. He would make enquiries.

AUCKLAND, Aug. 10. “It seems very .regrettable that people are to be found in this city to take advantage of the unemployment position,” said the Magistrate, Mr McKean, in fining J. E. Wade £2 and costs for a breach of the Shop and Offices Act.
The Labour Department’s inspector said that tl man named Taylor advertised that he would pay £lO bonus for a job. Wade replied and offered him work at £4 10s per week. Wade then for ten weeks deducted £1 from Taylor’s wages as the bonus payment. The inspector added that Wade was later appearing to answer a charge of tailing to pay the award rate of wages.
