CRICKET.
AN “IF” TEAM. COMMENT ON THE ENGLISH COMBINATION. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) Received 10.30 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 9. The newspaper “The Field” says: There seems to be a general agreement that Mary lebone has done very well m the choice of the team but the plain tact it is an “If” team. If Hobbs does not break down then the absence of the other first wicket partner Sutcliffe will not matter. If Larwood keeps sound he will be the very man to open with Tate. If there are faster wickets in Australia and Tate regains the skill he lost here, he may once more be the only great bowler of tlie world. If Freeman succeeds in his third tour, after failing in the others, it will be a marvel. If Mead, with the handicap of age and weight, can survive fielding for two or three days in intense heat, without tiring, he will be the very man for number four. If all these tilings happen or even several of them, we will win teste. If not, we may hay© to wait till we can do without so many “ifs.”
