TRADE TREATY
EFFECTIVE WITH JAPAN.

To- commemorate the taking effect of the trade treaty between Japan and New Zealand, the Japanese ConsulGeneral. Air I. M. Tokugaw-a gave a luncheon to-day to the leading representatives of the liegiislatiiire and the enmmerciail community. Ho was very glad the agreement had been concluded Mr Tokugawa. said, not only because it wan’d encourage trade between Japan and New Zealand, but because it would be a contributor to a, more P-eiiena;! good .relationship between the two countries. No doubt the co-operation of the two countries was necessary. He expressed -appreciation of the Dominion’s treatment of the Japanese training squa-erron. The Prime Minister also expressed pleasure at the conclusion of the treaty, and made it clear that before negotiation's were entered into the <oneuurenee of the British Foreign Office was obtained to complete the a,gicement along the lines it had followed. The object of the -agreement was the facilitation of trade -and commerce between Japan and New Zealand, which was -already considerable and, which, was increasing. Mr Coates -stressed the need for co-operation iii the Pacific.
o Dominion would always -remember Japan’s assistance in the hour of need.
