OGMMITTEE TO CARRY OUT SCHEME. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Aug. 7. The Government lias appointed a committee to supervise the carrying out of the Act recently passed by Parliament for the grading and marking oi agricultural produce. The chairman of the committee is Lord Darling, the former judge, and other members are Sir F. A. Jones, legal adviser to the Ministry ot Agriculture, and Sir William Peat, an eminent chartered acountant.

The committee will have the power to authorise the use of a prescribed mark and to'suspend or to revoke the right to use it in individual cases il necessary: It will watch the. general working of the scheme and advise the Government on changes that experience may prove necessary. A trade committee has been set up to deal with application for the national mark.

The system is regarded as a great reform in the'marketing of British-grown produce. The mark, which will identity the produce as British and guarantee specified standard, will he a map of England with a circle enclosing the “Union Jack. It will be applied at the outset to fruit, beginning with apples and pears, from September 1. It will be extended to eggs next January and later to other forms of English farm produce. The mark will be accompanied by a number of other indications of the identity of the producer so that complaints may he followed up. The scheme is a voluntary one hut if goods do not conform with the standard specified the purchaser will be entitled to recover cfamages for a breach of warranty or a breach of contract.
