No date has- been fixed yet as to when the “cruiser” railway carriage os to be put into operation in the South Island (says the “Lyttelton Times”), although it is certain that the ear will hi? available for the next tour its t -season. The.ro is one of these ears* for each island. .'They are the special carriages -built toi the Duke- of York’s tour. The idea of asino- them as “cruisers” is to allow parties of tourists to engage them and have them side - tracked vherevei wanted. The car used in the North Island has sleeping accommodation for six passengers together with a. loanee, kitchen and pantry, while the South Island car is provided with ia. lounge, observation portion, kitchen and accommodation for two sleepers. So fair as •the North Island is- concerned, the “oruisotr” has already been used by a visiting fishing party-
