HAWERA POULTRY CLUB.

ANNUAL SOCIAL ASSEMBLY

PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. The annual social of the Hawera Poultry Club attracted a representative gathering of club members and supporters to the Savoy Tea Rooms last evening, when the prize presentation ceremony and an appropriate toast list interspersed with musical items provided a programme replete with enjoyment. In extending a welcome to all in attendance, the president of the club, Mr. J. B. Wilson, expressed regret that sickness among club members had prevented the attendance of a considerable number, including the popular secretary, Mr. A. Hopkins. He expressed the hope that Mr. Hopkins and other members who were indisposed would be favoured with a speedy recovery of health. Following the loyal toast, sponsored by the president, the health of the president and past-presidents was proposed by Mr. (J. L. Gaylard, who said that in its president (Air. Wilson) and others who had preceded him in that office the club had been exceedingly fortunate in having the services, of excellent leaders. In the speaker’s knowledge Messrs D. Stewart, C. Cudby, and G. Grindrod had been very able presidents, and while the work they had carried out was continued with the enthusiasm and efficiency displayed; by the present leader there should be no cause to fear lor the prosperity of the club.

Messrs J. B. Wilson and D. Stewart, who combined in the reply, paid tribute to the work of the committeemen and the co-operation given by club members, which, it was stressed, was the essential factor to the success of the cuib’s work. in proposing the toast to the club, (Mr. A. E. Morris referred to the organisation as one of the most live societies in the district; and lie commended the club on its good lqrtune in having tlie* services of a very able band of officials. — The reply was given by Air. Wilson. Thanks to the exhibitors and all who had assisted the club at the recentshow were voiced by' the president before presenting several of the trophies gained. Juvenile rose bowl (points in children’s section). —Miss C. Stewart (Normanby). Won outright. Hawera, Poultry Club shield ribbon (utility poultry and ducks). —Mr. D. Stewart (Normunby). Hawera Poultry Club cruet ribbon (brown Leghorns).—'Mr. D. Stewart. Hawera Poultry Club oak tray ribbon (ducks,.—Mr. L. Stewart A. E. Gardner tray ribbon (best bird shown by club member). —Mr. \V. H. Barker (.Hawera). Watson Rose Bowl (heavy breeds). — Mr. W. E. Watson (Hawera). Won outright. Licensed Victuallers’ Silver . Cap (Rhode Island Red).—Mr. W. E. Watson . „ . Hawera Drapers’ Rose Bowl (White Rock). —Mr. E. Galvin (Hawera). Sec-' ond win. _ . In presenting the W atson Rose Bowl, which had originally been donated by Mr. Watson, the president (expressed thanks to the donor for the intimation that the trophy would he renewed. The presentation of the Club Rose Bowl to Mr. W T ilson as the points ’prize in the bantam classes was made by Mr. Gay lard.

The president also announced that eleven other trophies, ranging in value from £3 3s to £ls 15s, would be forwarded to the respective winners, the principal being the Club Challenge Shield for points in fancy poultry and bantams, which had been won by Mr. C. J. MacFarlane, of Hastings. Other toasts honoured were: “Successful Exhibitors” (Mr. J. Smith — Messrs D. Stewart, W. E. Watson, E. Galvin, and W. H. Barker); “The Performers” (Mr. J. B. Wilson—Messrs J. Smith, A E. Morris, L. Barton, and Miss Mills), and “The Press,” proposed cv Mr. D. Stewart:

Songs, each of which met with keen appreciation, were rendered by Miss Mills, Messrs J. Smith, and A. E. Morris. Accompaniments were played by Mr. L. Rowe. The evening’s entertainment concluded with a. dance programme, to the music of Barton’s orfhesti^a.
