Ytessns. H.' G. Dickie, M.P., and F. Gillanders were passengers for Wellington by the mall train this morning. Miss D. Tabor, of Palmerston North, is spending a short vacation in Hawera, and is a, .guest at the Commercial Hotel.
Mr. S„ Okimoto, Japanese daily" expert, who is at present on a tour of the Dominion, is a guest ot the Central Hotel during his stay in Hawera. slr. Okimoto is the- official representative of the Japanese Government, and is inquiring into the methods of up-to-date dairying in Taranaki.
Mrs. T. C. Sutherland, of Manaia, who was one of the delegates to the conference of the women’s division of the. Farmers’ Union in Wellington last week, returned .tn Saturday. Speaking to a “Hawera, Star” representative, Mrs. Sutherland said this was the first conference she had attended, and naturally it was a great experience. While it was, she said, a busy and. a strenuous 1 time, it was full of interest throughout, and she was convin'ed the division was doing a fine work and that it would develop very much in the future, c
At Ngaere Hall on Friday there was a large gathering of 'settlers to bid farewell to Air E. T. Kneebone and Mir and Mrs Hedgman, who are leaving their farms to settle in Stratford. On behalf of the settlers Alii- H. O. Taylor, chairman of directors of the dairy company, presented. Mr Kneebone with a case of pipes and Air and Airs Hedgman with a case of cutlery. Complimentary remarks were made by Air Taylor and appropriate replies made in acknowledgment. A pleasant evening was spent in a euchre tourney and a dance.
