DUNEDIN SOUTH, SEAT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.; DUNEDIN', July 30. At the request of Mr Sidey's committee, Mr W. B. Taverner, Mayor, has consented to contest Dunedin South, in the interests of the United Party. PARNELL RESIDENT MISSING. AUCKLAND, July 30. Frederick G. Jackson, aged 35, a resident of Parnell, has been missing since 8.30 on Saturday morning. Organised police and other parties searched in vain all yesterday and this morning there was still no trace. • THE MAUNGANUI DELAYED. WELLINGTON, July 30. The Union Company advises that the Maunganui, south bound from San Francisco, is being delayed by engine trouble and will not arrive at Wellington till noon on Thursday, three days’ late. She will remain at Wellington to effect repairs) and will sail on August 14 for Raratonga, Papeete and San Francisco. Passengers who were proceeding to Sydney by the Maunganui will transfer to the Marama, leaving Wellington on Friday afternoon. The Maheno, which leaves Sydney on August 10 for Wellington will connect with the Maunganui. Cargo from San Francisco by the Maunganui will be transhipped by the Manama and the Karetu, the latter leaving here on Saturday. A REFORM CANDIDATE. Mr Charles Todd, president of the New Zealand- Alliance, who originally iitimated his candidature for Wa-lra-ti-pu, will now contest Dunedin South in the Reform interests. BOARDINGHOUSE DESTROYED. GREYMOUTH; July 30. A boardinghouse at Rewanui, owned by the Mines Department, was destroyed by fire last night. It was insured for £9OO. Nothing was saved. The origin of the outbreak is unknown.
