The- fancy and novelty ball held last night was vea-y successful, 80 couples enjoyed a. very pleasant evening, but it was .somewhat disappointing that more did not appear in fancy dress. The la-dies were, as follows : —-

•Miss E. Griffin (Hawaiian maid), Aliss A!. Banr (Patches), Miss J. Jennings (Night, Aliss! J. Schneebeli (Biournvilile Cocoa), Aliss G. Ernmitt (All Blacks), Aliss P. Ward (Pierrot), Aliss. G. Hansen (Eastern dancer), v Air. Vernon Laurent, as a post office pillar box, was the., only man who appeared in fancy dress and was awarded Ist prize for the most original -costume. The awards for the ladies resulted.—Aliss J. Jennings Ist, while Aliss G. Ernmitt carried off the prize for the most original- costume. The judges. Air. and Airs Patterson of K-apuni, were very pleased with the effort- made. ’

Air. and Airs H. B. Taylor won the Atonic lOanil-oi prize and waltz, and Air. Gill -and Mass K. Aston the prizes for the spot waltz. Air. Leo Barr as usual made a very efficient Al.O. The euchre was well patronised by 58 players, who played- 13 game®. Mr. J. Finlay, A. Griffin (sear.), and J. Joyce, each with 9 game®, played' off for the prize, Air. Finlay winning the first and Air. J. Joyce the second. Mrs. H. B. Taylor and. Airs. H. Ward with 10 games played off for the Ladies’ prizes, .resulting ip, Mrs. Whrd securing first and Airs. Taylor second. After supper the chairman. Air. S. Thrush awarded the prizes and while doing so thanked Air. and Airs Patterson for their kindness in Carrying cut their duties a® judges. He stated that in future -dances would he held fortnightly, the next being on August 8.
