LAST AIEET OF THE SEASON

'Wednesday- at Manaia was a memorable .clay in'the history of hunting on cue- c-oast, for it saw a meet at which were present members from New Plymouth area, from Wuverley, and all round South Taranaki. It was the largest gathering of riders ever seen

a tiie district, and there was also a

very large following in cans and on foot, malting a very fitting finale to the hunting for the season locally. The hunt was over the properties of Mr. Mitchell and Mr. Cunningham. Hares were frequent and strong, and gave the hounds and riders excellent runs, with one kill. Good jumping was enjoyed, and, though there was one or two spills, no damage of any moment was reported. The party was most hospitably entertained by Air. and Airs. Alex.' Alit-' obeli at their home- on the Normanby Road..

The Alaster (Dr. Simmons), after thanking the host and hostess and their helpers, expressed pleasure at seeing North Taranaki riders present, and said- it was a tribute to their snorting spirit that they came down to this district. It was-, lie added a- most enjoyable day. and one that would 1-ong be remembered. He thanked also the farmers over whose country the hunters had their snort.

Air. Chaney thanked the Alfister for 'his hearty welcome, and said that un-

fortunately -some of the northern horses had been by an unfortunate circumstance left behind, and some riders had had to depend oil the kindness of their hosts. He joined in the thanks v to Air. and Airs. Alitchell, and said it. was good to see the three districts all so .strongly represented. He gave a cordial invitation to hunters from South Taranaki and Waver ley to visit the northern district at an early date for a meet, and hoped to see a large number there. Mr. Alitchell said he was glad to see so many present, and urged- them all to .stick together for the sake of the sport. He thanked the -ladies for their assistance.
