FARMERS’ CONFERENCE
REMITS DEALT WITH
HOSPITAL BOARD LEVIES

"WELLINGTON, July 25. The Farmers’ Union conference carried remits that the preferential railway freights on imported goods be removed; that the precautions against foot and mouth disease should not be relaxed in any way at all. It was resolved that the Government be asked to rectify an anomaly in the franchise for the election of harbour, hospital, and power board representatives by extending the full county franchise to rural voters. j
A protest -\yas entered against the burden of hospital and charitable aid rates. The Government was requested to provide a larger subsidy or to find such expenses out of national funds. This morning the conference passed a resolution of confidence in Mr. Poison, in view of attacks in a section of the Press With regard, to laylight saving the conference decided to send at once a strong letter to Mr. Coates objecting to it, and urging that it be not passed into law again.
