CALCUTTA, July 22. Following the collapse of the strike on the East Indian railway at Calcutta and the return to work of 15,000 men, a strike has broken out- on the South Indian railway. There is the gravest situation. iCtelur and Tuticorin stations have been wroc-ked, and the strikers have levelled the former to the ground. The police fired, and killed and injured many. An effort was made to derail the boat mail from Calcutta between Madras and Budalur. and at V' ikravandi the express was held up'* by strikers, who stoned the passengers and the police guard. The latter charged with bayonets fixed, injuring 30. . , The strikers held up other trains by destroying the track and by laying themselves on the line. Several stations were looted. engine sheds wrecked and stores fired. ... Over' 100 have been killed and injured, including police. Trains are arriving at Madras with every window broken. Telegraph wices have been cut. and whole districts isolated.
