DEATH OF FAMOUS ACTR ESS
NATION PAYS TRIBUTE,

Ellen Terry, the famous actress, at. the age of 80 years, came to a peaceful end in her simple cottage home near Tenterden, Kent,, to-day. Quite recently she was seen enjoying the sunshine' in the tiny garden she loved. Then came a heart attack on Tuesday', and she gradually weakened. The whole nation pays tribute to the great actress, one newspaper stating that she represented all that is best in English womanhood. Her own wish was expressed in the fly-leaf of Thomas a’Kempis’ “imitation of Christ,” the last book she read. Here was found a. few touching little sentences in her own writing. “No funeral gloom, my clears when I am gone. Think of me withdrawn into the dimness, but j ours still, and you mine. Remember all the best and iorget the rest.” In view of this wish the simplest service is being arranged in. the village church on Tuesday. The body. -will then be cremated and the ashes laid m St. Paul’s Church, Covent Garden, where she often worshipped.

Many other American stage stars add tributcis • Ellen Terry made her first appearance at the Princess Theatre, London, under Charles Kean, -but will be remembered chiefly for her long association with the late Sir Henry Irving in his Shakespearean and other dramatic productions at /the Lyceum Theatre, London.
