POLICE CHARGES HEARD. DRIVERS’ LICENSE SUSPENDED. The fortnightly sitting of the- Ha.wera -Uagiistrate’s Court was continued be*loro Mr R, W. Tate, S.M., to-day, when the List of police- cases was dealt wif/h Herbert -James Mc-Nelly, of Tiniaru* aplUO-red ond pleaded guilty to a charge of having driven a motor-car in a. manner dangerous to the public; on the 1 ongahoe hill, on the Main So-uth .cad. on March 16. As outlined by Sergeant Henry, the circumstances were that defendant while descending the hill on the Hawera side, had- endeavoured to pass between a motor Jo.rry ancl another ear which were ascending the hilt!, with the result that a collision had occurred Evidence of -excessive speed - was given,

BY-LAW OASES. •Charles Edward Parrington pleaded guilty to a charge of riding a bicycle without a light early on the evening of June 20 on the GRovcr Road. Defendant wa lS convicted and fined £1 and 10s costs. Jack Vowless, who failed to .op round the traffic dome on June 24, when riding -his motor-cycle and side-car from Vocde Street into High Street, pleaded guilty to the resultant- charge and was fined! £1 and 3-s costs. WOMAN CHARGED WITH THEFT. In compliance with the no quest of counsel (Mr, P. O’Dea), the Magistrate ordered the suppression of the name of a domestic servant, 24 yeans of age, who pleaded guilty to a charge of the theft last week of various articles -'.Peel at £1 from the 'house of her employer at Hawera. It wa« urged by counsel that defendant previously bo-re an excellent character, and Sergeant Henry agreed that a nominal penalty might meet the ease. After giving a warning to the girl, the magistrate entered a, conviction and ordered her to come up for sentence if called upon in /six months. BREACH OF PROHIBIION ORDER, Arrested on a cliar.ge of drunkenness on. May 12, Robert Henry Beard was found to bo in possession of ai small bottle of whisky and a: bottle of wine. As a prohibited person, lie was charged with having procured liquor during the currency of a pohibition order, and was fined £2 and IQs costs, IRREGULAR SCHOOL ATTENDANCE. Resulting from the non-attendance of a girl on the register of the Toliaora School. Bill Pera, her parent, was charged- cyit-h failing to .send the child to -school. A fine of 5s with 12s costs and 5s translation fee iva« imposed, the magistrate issuing a warning that a heavier penalty could be ex]>eeted if the child did not attend school regularly in future. ALLEGED THEFT. Arrested in Hawera last evening, George Wells, described as a labourer. 33 years of age, appeared on a cliairgc- of stealing two" 'suitcases and contents, valued at £3O at New Plymouth yesterday. On the application of Sergeant Henry,' the accused was remanded to appear' at New Plymouth on Wednesday.
