INVESTITURE OF “DECORATIONS”

The third of the season's series of soic-iail.s at tine Returned Soldiers’ Curb, xiayvera, attracted an attendance oi about eighty ex-diggers and their friends fast evening. The programme again proved replete with enjoyment, the star item being the investiture or the Revs. J. R. Young and K. S. Bmuritt with “decorations” awarded in appreciation of their efforts in the padre's reminiscences contest held at previous socials. Sustained hilarity was caused as “routine orders” were read by a gorgeously arranged adjutant and an enormously tal'li “aide do camp” escorted the recipients of the “decorations” before “General and Lady Fer Gooson.’ On the breast of Air Young the “general” pinned a huge gilt medal suspended from a scarlet ribbon and bearing the inscription for “ ‘mule teering at the Returned Soldier's’ Club, Havvera,” while a. similar token inscribed “For alleged lecturing at the battle of Wittsenwurds” was pinned to the 'lapel of Air Emmitt’s tunic. Cleverly portrayed by each of the principals, the burlesque scene was the most popular feature 1 of entertainment yet presented at the socials. Air J. Renwiok, who arranged the scene, took the part of the “Adjutant,” Air L. S. Poison was the “aide camp,” while the roles of the “General” and his. “Ilady” were interpreted, toy Alessris S. R . Veitoh and E. H. Piper. A 'billiards tourney for ladies, partnered by “ex-digger” players, varied items of song and story, card games and dancing were other features of the evening programme. All'ss West and Air AI. R. Jones proved, the most successful of the twenty couples in the toilTliards tourney. Items were rendered by Airs AI. J. Squire. Mists Mills, Alessrs Powell, Piper, Hardenlberg, and Avondale, all of whom had to respond to insistent encores.

Appreciation of the assistance given tov the performers, thanks to the ladies who provided the supper and thanks to the public for the generous support accorded were voiced on behalf of the committee by the chairman. Air Hector TVirres, who also extended a. cordial Aviation to the next assembly to all interested.
