LADIES’ HOCKEY.
COMMENTS ON THE ELAY.
WEDNESDAY’S MATCH. Although the Technical girl® defeated II amblers by five' goals to nil in their mid-week match, the score of three to nil in the first itlio play was very fast and each (team had plenty to do. Ramblers played nice hockey in this spell, but seemed to go ■half, waa, no criterion of. the game, as to pieces in the second session.
Dor Ramblers, Miss Shannon, dta goal, ■played'a:' good game; Misses Adams amid Muir, as full-backs, played weM, especially the laittq/, who has 1 only taken up the game this year. Misses Woßdamis, Burn and Ware, u-p also played well. School played fair, although: they haiwc played better hockey. ELTHAM v. PTHAMA. Elthaih ladies’ team defeated, I’ihama to-day [by -1 goals to nil. The scorers were Mis sc® Potts, Kemp and Lambert HAW BP A ROVERS 4 "v. 0 TAKE HO 2. At Otakeho on Saturday the Hawera, Rovers met the home eleven and after a fast and even game Rovers proved victors ,by 4 goals to 2. At half-time Rovers were leading by 2 goals, one off the stick of G. M'eGiashan and the other from M. Langford. After the interval Otakeho started a pot attack and by good following up netted their first goal. From the bully the ball travelled up and down-field for some timo till the home side, after a keen struggle, enabled Miss Mcßae to net her second goal. From now on till the last ten minutes: Rovers sparkled, and after some good-hockey. G. McGlashan found the net again. The Rovers continued to press hard till M. Langford sent in a splendid goal leaving Rovers winners as stated;. No player could be sorted out on either side all, playing good hockey. Messrs. V. L. Warner and D'avis ably ' controlled the game. Both teams very much- appreciated the afternoon tea provided by the Otakeho ladies.
A change, in arrangements lias been made in regard to the match Otakeho v. Hawera High -School' B (-ladies), which will -be played -an Saturday next at Hawer'a instead of Otakeho.
HIGH SCHOOL v. MAN ALA. The match High School v. Manaia, played at Kin® .Edward Park, resulted in a drawn game—one all. Manaia took the field with nine players, and although thus handicapped played well. From the bully off. School crushed play into Manaia’s territory, butt the fullbacks cleared. School tried- hard again to penetrate Manama's defence, but worn- driven back, and Manaia took 'the ball downfield into School’s territory. Play hovened around School’s twentyfive-. and then from- a good movement by their forward Ml Wilson beat the defence and scored. The play once more hovered in School territory, but School is defencp stood the strain and play was transferred to the other end of the field, when the spell ended. On resumption, Manaia -again invaded School’s territory. School defended well and after about ten minutes’ play School brought the ball.' down into Manaia,’s territory where, play remained, for a; while, until School’s left wing secured and sent. infield for the- inside left to beat the- full-back and allow P. Death- to equalise with a beautiful ..shot , that would have beaten any goal-keep-er. From the bully School again gained . ground, and play was in SVfanaia’s territory when the whistle sounded for time.

HATTED A MEN’S' TEAM.
The following team has been picked to represent H'awera A (men’s) in the : match to bo played at Mangatoki on the 27th inst.: Palmer,. Vowlcss, Johnson, Simon, Carter. Champion. Warner, Lay. Carter. Wilton, McFadgen. Mr. D. Burgess Tvill referee the game. The bus leaves the post office at 1.30 sharp.
