SOUTH TARANAKI WINTER SHOW.
BRITISH INDUSTRIES FAIR. OPENS HAWERA ON WEDNESDAY In pursuance of the policy of giving strong support to British trade which lias been featured at several of the Winter Shows in Hawera during the past 10 years, this year’s- big show will feature , a British Industries Fair,, , a real week for Empire trade, the motto for which is aptly expressed in the decision of the peqnle of the' Empire to “Let us be -stronger still.” The show has received wonderful support and patronage from the leading men in Parliament- and in. industry. The Prime Minister (Rt. Hon.J. G. Coates) has given it his patronage, and regretted very much that Parliamentary duties will prevent him from being present to officially open the show.
In his place Hon. O, J. Hawken (Minister of Agriculture) will perform the ceremony, and actually it will be appropriate that the head of that great department will attend and set the show on its work next week. Then the fair has the strong endorsement of the Dairy Produce Board, the Meat Producers’ Board, and the Honey Board, and it is expected that leading men in each of these arenas of production will be present at the fair. In addition the New Zealand Honey Producers’ Association will hold its annual conference at Hawera.
A great feature will he the wonderful display of Marketing Board posters. artistic and striking publicity, exhibited for the first time in New Zealand. and specially obtained from London for this fair. These three disnlays will give New Zealanders ideas of the methods adopted by these three boards to advertise their products in the Old Country. The Government Publicity Department will have special film display in show picture theatre. Special displays will be made by the State Forest Service, Railway Department. Department of Agriculture. Tourist Department, and Deiiartment of Industries and Commerce’.
There will be special excursion trains from north and south, and these are certain to bring large crowds from other centres. On Tuesday there will be community lighting and special window display by town: on ‘Wednesday, official opening; on Thursdav, poultry and cat show; on Friday the day will be made a children’s day; on Saturdav the attraction will he the football match New Plymouth High School v.
