(srave rioting at Zegreb, the Croatian capital, followed the publication of the Skupstina s'hcotiuig in which a deputy emptied ihi-s revolver into the Opposition benches, killing two anti wounding four others. Crowds demonstrated before the house of Stephen Rad itch, who was reported to be dead. T. R-aditoh, a Deputy, attempted to call-in the gathering, which quietened after hearing that Stephen was still alive. The police, fearing excesses, began dispersing the crowd. This resulted in disorder. A procession pf young men, marching. behind- a Croatian banner draped with crepe, was -followed by a huge assehtbly which, on -the police attempting to. disperse it by repeatedly charging the crowd, 'responded l 'by pelting the police' with stones and cudgelling them. The cavalry we re turned on” and olia-rgedi the mob. The disorders lasted for -some- hours, recurring in different parts of the city. Finally the police charged and appeals by deputies .resulted in the dispersion of the crowds.
