RETURNING TO WORK

SYDNEY, June 19. The crew for the Ulimaroa will Ibe engaged 'to-morrow. The vessel is in dock and will sail for Wellington on Friday. , The Cooks ’ Union is trying to circumvent the owners’ right to select la'bour at the ship’s side and has decided to impose a line of three guineas, with twelve months’ expulsion, if any memiber accepts employment outside the union rooms. RESTORATION, OF SERVICES. VOLUNTEERS TO BE PAID OFF. SYDNEY, June 18. The marine cooks continue to return to work, and the owners are busy refitting idle ships. It is anticipated that within a. couple of weeks all vessels will be recommissioned' and normal services be resumed. At a meeting of shipowners it was decided to pay off the volunteer crews, compensating them by the payment of one month’s pay in addition to the payment for services given.
