Sir James Gun-son returned to Auckland yesterday after 18 months spent in Britain and on the Continent, states a Press Association message.
Sir Alfred Mond, eminent politician and chemical manufacturer, will take the ti tle of Lord Mel die t of Landford, states .a British -wireless message. Mr. and Airs. F. Blundell, of Wellington, accompanied by their son, are guests at the Central Hotel. Mr. J. George, of Messrs George and Doughty, Ltd., Wellington, is at present on a. business trip to Hawera and is staying at the Central Hotel.
Among the guests at the Commercial Hotel are Mr. Fearn, of the Public Trust Department, Wellington, and Mr 8. \\ . Fearn, architect, of Wellington, both of whom are making a short business 1 visit to Hawera.
Mr. F. A. Bates, headmaster of the Hawera public school, left for Wellington by the mail train this morning, where he attends a meeting of the New Zealand Educational Institute. Judge Browne, of the Native Land Court, is at present on a visit to Hawera in connection with native aft airs. During his stay Judge Browne is a guest at the Egmont Hotel. Mr. W. J. Dunn, advance agent for Messsr Fullers, Ltd., was in Hawera to-day in connection with the forthcoming visit r.f the “Archie” company next week. A Calcutta, message reports that Sit’ Alexander Muddinran died .suddenly ol heart failure. The Government has lost one of its ablest and most tactful servants. Sir Alexander, who was 53 years of age, was Governor of the United Provinces of Agra and Oudii.
