MELBOURNE, June 18. A large meeting of Labo urates at its Gaiety Theatre was listening to the strike aftermath speeches by Trades Union Council officials, Mr W. Duggan and. Mr G. Crofts, when lively interjections were hurled, blaming the Trades Council, namely: “You sold ns,” “Traitors,” “Squibs,” “Firauds,” “Scabs,” and similar (pleasantries. Mr Duggan declared the outcome of the strike had been an ignominious defeat, but Mr Crofts contended that the cooks had lost little, if anything. A MILLION STERLING. IDLE SIHUS BEING MANNED. With the official end of the cooks’ strike the owners have commenced to engage cooks for all the idle vessels, including the Ulimaroa, which' is expected to sail on Friday next. No difficulty was experiended_ here yesterday in obtaining men, and similar conditions prevail at all the ports,'the men displaying anxiety to return to work. A Melbourne message says that it is estimated that the strike cost £1,000,000.
