JUNIORS.
ATHLETIC AND OPUNAKE DRAW. After a. very fast game under ideal conditions Opunake juniors drew with Athletic, the score being 9 all. lor the first few minutes play was confined to midfield, Atheltic pressing hard, but Zurclier saved for Opunake. Play was returned to Athletic twentyfive, where Ross, after a good passing rush, accepted and got over near the corner. The kick failed. Opunake 3, Athletic 0. From a loose scrummage Dudley cleared Opunake from danger. Athletic backs got going again, but were unable to penetrate the de: ence. Lusx intercepted and ran through the opposition, scoring for Opunake’ near the posts. Ross’s kick railed. Opunake 6, Athletic 0. Play was then transferred to midfield, Opunake retaining a slight advantage. There was no alteration in the score when half-time was called. On resuming. Athletic attacked, and after a good passing run Seagar got over at the corner. The try was not converted. Opunake 6. Athletic 3. Opunake then carried play upheld, but a penalty assisted Athletic. The latter then appeared dangerous in a passing rush, but Lang ton upset the movement. Athletic continued to press, but Opunake instituted a passing rush, which brought the ball back to Athletic territory. From a scrummage Watkins scored. The kick by Ross failed. Opunalvc 9, Athletic 3. From a penalty at midlield Athletic succeeded in kicking a goal, bringing tlie score to 9—6. Fast passing rushes and good lonvard play Were indulged by both teams. With three minutes to go Athletic returned to the attack and Dodd scored, making the score 9 all. Play ended without further score. Mr. W. Tippins was referee.

I Rawclifle at full-back. Hall at half, and Jordan at centre, were conspicuous backs-, for the winners, while Roberts and Tate, who hooked the ball with almost unfailing regularity, were good ntit-.ers. The whole, team -showed much promise of success conditionally that strict training is maintained. M. Burke, of the three-quarter lino, and Christensen, • in the pack, were noted players for the previously undefeated Blues. The first spell ended wit lithe score six-nil in WaimatcV favour, tlie scorer* being Mckv and M, Burke. In the second session Hawera took •cliiirgo t&nd were registered by Matlieson, Jordan.
