MR. TUDEHOPE’S STATEMENT,

Mr. Tudehope, the secretary for the Cooks’ Union, in a statement, said: ‘•My union is convinced that the shipowners are not sincere. The roster has been in . operation for * a number ol .jeans. \\ e were most conciliatory in our offer to them regarding the right oi selecting our own labour, but my union absolutely refuses to be stampeded by the owners, who how insist upon the following conditions: That the union must give an undertaking that all companies will be allowed free selection of labour for the galley hnd be able to choose whom they like; further, the owners’ representatives must be free to engage men, either through the union at call hours or outside those hours at the shipping office, ship's side or elsewhere.”
