FATALITY NEAR CASTLECLIFF.
CAR CAPSIZES IN SWAMP
DRIVER DROWN ED
An accident occurred on the Heads Road near Castlecliff on Thursday, which resulted in the death of Mr. W. H. Scott, a well-known draper of Aramoho. Mr. Scott, who was driving a three-seated car, was taking three friends to Castlecliff. Near the soap works there is a left elbow bend. As the visability was particularly bad, it is presumed that the bend was* not noticed, and* the car ran into a swamp and capsized. Deceased was pinned beneath' the ear and was drowned, there being no marks on the body. The other occupants of the car were Roderick Munroe (Metropolitan Hotel), Thomas Dillon (Castlecliff), and Miss Maude Stone (Castlecliff). Miss Stone escaped with abrasions, and was taken to the hospital, .suffering from shock; Mr. Dillon had two hones of the right arm broken, and Mr. Munroe escaped injury. The first person to notice that- an accident had occurred was Mr. E. F. Cross, of Castlecliff, and he assisted Mr. Munroe to get the deceased from under the ear. The police were immediately summoned, and Senior-Sergeant Lopdell proceeded to the scene of the accident, and superintended the removal of the body to the morgue and the injured to the hospital.
Deceased for some years was employed at the D.I.C. before entering into business at Aramoho. He was a very popular member. of the community, and in his younger days was a very fine runner. He leaves a widow" and three children.
