ADMINISTRATION CRITICISED.

POTJLTRYMEN’S ASSOCIATION. TARANAKI CLUB’S PROTEST. NEW ORGANISATION SUGGESTED. The administration of the North Island Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Association from its headquarters at Palmerston North was the subject of critical comment and expressions of dissatisfaction at a meeting of delegates oi Taranaki, poultry clubs held in Stratford last evening, and i.t was decided to with contemporary clubs throughout the island 1 setting forth reasons for dissatisfaction ana requesting opinions on the organisation general ly with a view" to obtaining an improvement.

Mr L. O'. Hooker, manager of the .Hawera Winter Show, was voted to the chair by the meeting, which consisted or the following delegates: Messrs J. B. Wilson, D. Stewart and. A. Hopkins (Hawera. Poultry Club), A. J. I>avey, W. Cannon, H. J. Kirkwood, F. T. Hale (Stratford Poultry Club), J. Mein DO/sh, J. MeGaihey, E. James, A. P. Lister, H. J. Hall and J. K. Hawkins (New Plymouth Poultry Club). An apology for absence was received from thra”Wanganui Club, together with an intimation that it would support any action taken.by the meeting. “The object of the meeting is to discuss the administration of tire association from its present headquarters, concerning, which much dissatisfaction had been felt, and to take such, action aisi it deemed, advisable in the interests oi poultrymen generally,” said Mr Hooker in opening the. proceedings. MANAGEMENT UNSATISFACTORY. He gave instances in Ilia experience with, headquarters during negotiations concerning the poultry section of the Hawera, show of neglect of correspondence by headquarters and failure to supply information requested. This was only one evidence of unsatisfactory management. Consultation of the clubs concerning the affairs of the association might reasonably be expected, but clubs had not received copies of rules which he believed it was proposed to register, wfu’e advice as to the date ol the annual meeting was given in a, very unsatisfactory way, notification last year having reached the speaker only four days before the meeting was to be hold. With such short notice clubscould not arrange for representation. : hie sneaker had twice visited Paf-nie-’-ston Noith with tin? view to seen ring Mention to certain matters, but had been unable to obtain .satisfaction, aim

as the result of the unsatisfactory position of affairs the president (Mr AV Grey) had resigned. No official notifi cation of this had, .however, been mack to olrtbs. The method 01 allocating dates of. shows and championships was also unsatisfactory, and this year, with, out consulting other clubs, the associations, had allowed- the dates' at Palmerston North to be altered, with consequent inconvenience to others, and par ticwlarlv to tlie Wanganui Club. It seemed that the interests of other bodies in the association must take .second place .so far as Palmerston North was concerned, ancl it was time headquarters was l removed to another centre. “It i« essential that the present unbusinesslike method should be discontinued and that vo .should, have decent government in the interests of poultrymen .generally,” said Mr Hooker, “and the remedv is in pur hands. r> .

{ H AAI PIONSHIP CERTIFICATES. Mr A. J. l>avey, of Stratford, endorsed the remarks .of the chairman, and said that the Stratford club had experienced trouble with headquarters. He referred to three championship winners during the previous two years who had not received the association certilicaite and remarked that in the case of a championship he had .secured personal,'y he had experienced much delay in securing the certificate. , Replying to Mr E. James? (New Ply■nouth). who asked if the trouble could not be relieved through ventilation at annual meeting, the chairman said tlie district clubs could make, their m(Continued at foot of next column.)

luenee felt by good .represen taton, bat ;he time of trie annual meetng, in tue middle of June, when work was necessary in connection with many of the shows, presented another difficulty. Further, the place of the annual iiieetngs should not be permanent. Mr J. Hawkins (Now Plymouth) thought there would be no chance oil getting the headquarters removed fiom Palmerston Noiith, owing to the system of representation by resident -delegates. Je endorsed the dissatisfaction expressed b-v former speakers, and mentioned championship winners who had not Tiaceived prize money, and also seated that much difficulty was vxperisneed in getting replies to correspondjnce... After voiciiio; further grievances, -ie said that all affiliated societies should send delegates to the, association’s annual meeting instead of allowing one club’s representative to represent several, as had often, been the case in Taranaki. If strongly represented at the annual meeting, the Taranaki clubs might be able to have the headquarters- shifted-, but it appeared that a no tier? of motion would be inquired and a. year would elapse -before it was put into effect.

“I am very pleased to see that the matter has been taken up,” said Air A. P. Lister, of New Plymouth, who had attended the association mooring. At the last annual meeting he had spoken of the possibility of a new organisa (ion being set up.

Mr D. Stewart (Ha-w«ra) described the condition of affairs of the association as farcical, and 1 suggested that if satisfaction was not obtained the. clubs should consider linking up with, the Poultry Championship Association, cr. failing that, form a separate organisation.

It was pointed, out by other speakers that it had been decided to discontinue the work of the championship association, and Mr Davy gave support to the proposal that the Taranaki bodies should sponsor a new organisation and endeavour to get support from other dubs in the island.

Concerning the championship association .Mr Stewart replied that it was very probable the organisaoion would --•any on if support was .forthcoming. Mr J. T. Hale moved that ali clubs ; n the island ’be communicated with and t.sked for opinions on the organisation generally. - ‘A,s secretary ot the Stratford Club. I must sav in faim-os to the association secretary, however, that he has replied to our ;ai d Air Hale.

The motion was seconded by Air. E. fames and, was carried unanimously after a general discussion, in -vhicib further complaints were voiced. In accordance with the motion, the diairmun was authorised to commani•ate with, the clubs on the lines indicated.. and! to outline the, experience'. ot fara.naki clubs with reference to nonMiyment of champonship awards by headquarters, the failure .to issue cert iicates. neglect of correspondence, emission of judges from the official list, and also to express the Taraanki, clubs* dissatisfaction concerning the method of ippointment of delegates, ihe rd.’eoa-. tion of show dates and championships. The administration of the New Zealand) Leghorn Chib (North Jslanu), which, it was explained, was controlled iv the same president and secretary as the Poultry Association, was also the ■subject of criticism, when Mr Davy pointed out that the Leghorn Club shield competition® bad this year been allocated to the Onebunga show on J ;ne 14 an d IS, and the North I stand Leghorn championship, control’ed by '.the Poultry Association, had been allocated to. the New Plymouth shew on, June 13, 14 and 15. The result would be that a Leghorn. Club member 'who might desire So enter birds for both the- Leghorn shields and the championship would bo unable to do so. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to Air Hooker for his chairmanship and the interest he had shown in the welfare of the poult 7 * "dub.
