OPERATIONS IN BURMA. BRITISH INFLUENCE AT WORK COMPENSATION TO CEASE. (UNITED TRESS ASSOCIATION—BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT.) (UNITED SERVICE.) Received 10.10 a.m. to-dav. CALCUTTA,, May 6. The slave-releasing expedition into the Burmese Triangle recently returned after the release of the final batch of 1,028 slaves. No slaves now remain. At a largely attended durbar, the commissioner announced the definite abolition of slavery in Ivaehin hills. Generous compensation had been paid and henceforth there would be no- further right to possess slaves or to receive compensation.
