EGMONT-WANGANUI HUNT
MEET AT WAVER LEI. (By “Observer.”) The members of the Egmont-Wa nganui Hunt Club met at tlie homestead of Mr. J. Kennedy, Waverley last Saturday afternoon. The first- part ol the hunt was rather quiet as hares were scarce, but the weather was ideal for the sport. Two kills were registered, but with only short runs, until the end of the day, when “bunny” led the field a merry pace for quite an hour, when she was lost in a patch of gorse. 3y tins time it was 4 o’clock or after, and followers returned to the homestead to enjoy a cup of tea which was much appreciated by all. Deputy Master Lupton, in a lew well chosen words, thanked the Kennedy family for their hospitality to the members of the chib, and all went homeward well satisfied with the day’s sport. Among those who followed the hounds across country were: Dr. Simmons on “Bartham,” D. Lupton on “Neficehc,” D. Crocker (Bonny Five.), I. Lupton (Kaffir), D. Jackson (Haiemai), S. Mcßae (Sueade), Miss Gibson (Wonderflight), Miss Smitlieram (Grey Dawn), Miss Stewart (Gentleman Jack), Miss Speedy (Wallace), Miss Washer (Improve), E. Davidson (Pikimai), S. Davidson (Supple Jack), R. Watkins (Lively Fire), A. Mitchell (Gaiters), H. Watkins (Vanchinell), D. Sprat.t (Benzine), Huntsman Myers (Dingle’s Pride), and Master Lupton (Grey Legs). There was a host of other straight riders whose names could not he ascertained, and there were a good many spectators viewing the hunt from their motor cars.
The next meet will be at Mr. Gamlin’s, Manaia, on Wednesday, May 9.
