RADIO FOR HOSPITAL.
HAWERA CAMPAIGN PROPOSED. FUND TRUSTEES APPOINTED. Preliminary steps in connection with a proposed' campaign for funds to install radio appliances at the Hawera Public Hospital were taken at a public meeting held in the Borough Council Chambers last evening for the purpose of appointing trustees. Tiiere were present the Mayor (Mr. E. A. Paeey), Messrs. H. G. Dickie, M.P., B. McCarthy, P. Bond, and the original sponsor of the proposal, Dr. J. McGhie. Apologies for, absence were received from Messrs. A. Hunter and. T. J. Salmon.
“From a medical practitioner’s point of view the benefits of the installation at a- hospital are incalculable,” said Dr. J. McGhie, who explained that, as the nucleus of the fund, donations had been received from the Amateur Operatic Socety £lO 10s, Mrs. W. G. Strange (concert proceeds) £l2 Is 6d, Hawera Scottish Society £l, concert, at Nbrmanby £ll 3s Bd, Highland Band (hospital .collection) £3 2a 2d, and sale of theatre ticket 6s, the total amount to date being £3B 3s 4d. Messrs. H. G. Dickie, M.P., B. McCarthy and A. Hunter were appointed as a committee of trustees, with Mr. T. J. Salmon as secretary and treasurer.
Mr. Bond proposed as a method of preliminary organisation that the meeting he adjourned, each person present, undertaking to bring two or three others to a- subsequent meeting, and that the number then present be formed into an interim committee. That committee could arrange communication with all _ organised sports bodies or ..societies in the hospital board’s area, requesting that-delegates he appointed to a further meeting, which would appoint the permanent committee. The committee, he suggested, might be divided into a. number of suitably-sized: groups to arrange for respective appeals. Tn 'accordance with Mr. Bond’s suggestion, a motion adjourning the meeting.to Monday next was carried unanimous! v.
