As manager of the lowan factory Mr. McDougall has been die right man in the right place. He ras put in a longer term than any of lis predecessors, and has proved himself second to none. I congratulate urn on his well-earned promotion, and candidly express my opinion that Rowm’s loss is Oaonui’s gain. He has set high standard for his successor. In conclusion, I wish Mi*, and Mrs. Mclougall health, wealth and prosperity i their new home.”.
Air. G. B. Hill, the Ro-wan representative on the ICaponga Company’®, lirectorate, and chairman of the social •ommittee, voieed the regret of the empany and settlers at Air. and Airs. AlcDougall’s departure from the districk, and in doing so likened himelf to* the Vicar of Biray, in that he iad assisted to .farewell no. less than .even different managers of the Rowan actory. He was pleased to note that he settlers had risen to every occasion and it must be gratifying to Mr. and Mr®. McDougall to know that they vere no exceptions to the rule. During heir stay in Rowan Airs. McDougall iad been in charge of the postal department in which* connection she had always been courteous and obliging, vhile she and Mr. AlcDougall had al•vays associated themselves with the ocial welfare of the community. On "
>ehalf of the settlers he wished them success in their new venture and would all upon Mr. Tait to present to them some tokens of the settlers’ appreciation.
In the course of a happy speech. Air. ait said it was the unanimous opinion f his co-directors that Air. McDougall had filled his exacting position for ten ,ong years with credit and fully justified his selection for a more responsible position. His parting from the company’s service was quite a blow. He had served the company and the Rowan suppliers with an equal measure of faithfulness and incidentally set a high standard for his successor. In comuon with others, the speaker would lokl pleasureable recollections of his business and social associations with Ir. McDbugalJ and cherish the mem;ry of many instances of Mrs. # Alc)ougall’s hospitality. On behalf of the vaponga Dairy Company and the Rowan settlers he had. pleasure in presenting, as mementos of their stay in the district: To Air. and Airs. AleOougall, a silver-mounted oak tray, diver tea service and a chiming clock; ,o Air. McDougall, a case of Loewe >ipes; and to Alaster Angus AlcDougall i football.
Mr. AlcDougall . suitably acknow- ! edged the chairman’s remarks and on behalf of Airs. AlcDougall, himself and heir son expressed keen appreciation f the kindly feelings which prompted he gifts. These would ever remind • hem of their happy Rowan associations.
