PRINCE OF WALES
TO USE AN AEROPLANE. TO KEEP URGENT ENGAGEMENTS (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN PRESS ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, April 30. The Prince of Wales’s popularity renders it almost impossible for him to travel by road. He is frequently unpunctual lor his engagements, owing to being mobbed in villages en route, people jumping on, the running board ana compelling his car to crawl. His engagements are so heavy that it lias teen decided to place an army aeroplane at his dis]ft>sal, fitted with the latest slotted wing safety device, and to l:e in charge of a skilful pilot, to be used in the event of long-distance engagements when the train time-tables are unsuitable.
. Hisi secretary, Sir Godfrey Thoinas, emphatically denies that tne Prince will learn to pilot an aeroplane, and it will not be used except on urgent official occasions, and it will be any airworthy machine that may be available, not a special machine and not of a specially fitted design. 't he Prince will follow. the plan of the King of ,the Belgians, Avho delights in air journeys. The Queen of the Belgians possesses her oAvn aeroplane. Ihe Prince has already visited an aerodrome near London and made a flight in the type of machine he may use.
