OPUNAKE.
CHAMBER OF OMMEBCE. Among the matters dealt with by the Opunake Chamber of Oommcrcc during the first year of its existence, and referred to in its annual report, were the following matters: The erection of permanent ‘High School buildings at Opunake, and what has been done by the board and the department has doubtless been expedited by the represontatios of the Chamber. Representations were made to the Railway Department towards a better. service, including more excursion trains; the opening of bank aecouts at Opunake by those dairy companies operating in Rahotu and Pungarehu districts, but the companies were not prepared to do this, although the bank in question would have co-operated by forwarding funds to Opunake to be drawn upon free of exchange by Rahotu suppliers. The completion of the Wirenra and byroads was the subject of representations to the Minister of Public Works, and these, works Have been pushed ahead by unemployed labour. The level crossing on Iliaia Road was the subject of representations to the Railway Department. -It was decided to support the Harbour .Board in its endeavour to make the port a payable proposition. The Ihaia track came up for discussion, and the iChamber hopes that ultimately this will be accomplished and that a branch committee of the Egmont. National Park Board will be formed for this district.
