PAHIATUA BY-ELECTION.

[by telegraph—press association ] PAHIATUA, April 28. A borough by-election caused by the resignation of Mr. Daniel Mori arty, was held yesterday and resulted in Mr. F. C4.' Bourke being returned by one vote, Mr. Bourke receiving 205 and Mr. Moriarty 204. Mr. Bourke was a member of the previous council. Mr. Moriarty had resigned his seat as a protest against the action of the works committee over the letting of a small contract. More than half the electors did not vote.
