.SERIOUS OFFENCE ALLEGED. M. ASTER.TON, April 22. Walter Scout Bagby, the jockey, was charged in the- court to-day with committing a serious offence at Masterton on April 14. The court was cleared. The complaint-ant, a girl aged 181. said in her evidence that the alleged occurrence took place at a dance. She was still giving evidence at the luncheon adjournment. ADMITTED TO' PROBATION. DUNEDIN, April 27. William Henry Reay, a sigmvriter, came up for sentence at the Police Court- to-day on a. charge of being found without lawful exquse in Sir Charles Statham’s yard. This was the case in which Sir Charles Statham, being called by In's- daughter, found the man near a window and had a violent struggle, in the course of which his daughter assisted by striking Reay in the face. Statements made by the police and counsel showed that the accused had been drinking, while a report from, the Defence- Department stated that Reay, had suffered from shell shock and shrapnel wounds, for which he had still another operation to undergo, and that he took more drink than was good for him. In view of the reports and testimonials and the accused’s good character, the. Magistrate, with some hesitation, admitted the accused to probation for 12 months, also, issuing a prohibition order against him.
