AUTUMN FLOWER SHOW.
RECORD NUAIBER OE ENTRIES. I SOAIE CHOICE BLOOAIS. The Autumn Flower Show which is held annually by the _ Presbyterian Women’s Alissionary Union _ was field yesterday at the Presbyterian Hall, when a large crowd of horticultural enthusiasts were greeted with many choice exhibits, there being a record number of entries in all classes, the judges in many eases having a difficult task to deal with the many fine specimens produced, particularly in the chrysanthemum section. A feature, of the show was the outstanding success of Airs. Hayter, of Manaia, in the open classes, who received no less than seven first awards. In the novice class Mrs. Raine did exceedingly well, gaining five first prizes. The, champion bloom in tbe show, a beautiful white chrysanthemum, was the exhibit of Mrs. H. Raine. Tile energetic secretary (Airis. A. Thomson) and her band of workers had everything in smooth running ordei, and the success of the show reflected the greatest credit upon all responsible for the excellent function. The following ladies of the committee acted in the capacity of stewards in "tlic various exhibits: Chrvs-anthe-mum classes, Mrs. Tart and Aliss E. Tait; decorative classes. Alis® Ballantine and Aliss Blair; children’s classes. Miss Robertson; cut flowers section. Mrs. Coleman and Aliss Coleman; pot plants, Aliss Coleman; fruit and vegetables, Aliss At. Thomson. Air. C. Goodson, associated with Alesdames Guy Cooper and ATeWilliam, of _EI- - were the judges of the various sections, and their decisions met with universal approval. Aliss Alary Thomson gained second place with 37 points. DISPLAY AT RAHOTU. CONDUCTED BY AIETHODIST LADIES’ GUILD. The display of chrysanthemums in the Euhotii Hall yesterday was very fine indeed and many compliments were paid the ladies of the Aletliodist Guild, under whose aegis the show was held. The judge, Mr F. J. Alorshead, of New Plymouth, was much impressed with the array of blooms and said the quality and range were both worthy cf special commendation. Air H. Stanners, of Eltbam, won the reserve championship for best bloom in the show.
In opening the show, Rev. W. W. Avery, of Bltliam, congratulated tbe district on the advance made since the first show three years ago. He urged all growers to give their time to securing the very best blooms, for it was just as easy and much more, pleasant to grow good than poor flowers. In the novice class- Mr H. Stanners secured first prize for white bloom and Aliss E. Putt, of Warea, scored in most of the other classes. Air C. E. Harvey, New Plymouth, Mrs Andrews and Mrs T. Putt, Warea, divided the honours in the.open classes.
