ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
CORONER, NOT SATISFIED. I BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION. J DUNEDIN. April 23. “I find difficulty in seeing how the motorist did not see the boy and take prompt measures in sufficient time to avoid knocking him down. I am not able to bring in any negligence, but, on the other hand, 1 am not satisfied that the driver did all that a reasonable driver would do. 1 must leave the matter open' with this comment. 1 ' These were the remarks of the Coroner (Mr. J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) this morning at the conclusion of the hearing of an inquest on the body of Geoffrey Moncrieff Gilchrist, aged seven years, who was knocked down by a motor-car on March 12 near the intersection of George and Union Streets, and who died at his home on April 10. The driver of the car went o 7 feet after knocking the boy down before stopping, though he claimed he was not going fast and went on a bit to leave the road clear. The Coroner returned a verdict, that the deceased died from sepsis coming from a rupture of the liver, which was caused through his being accidentally knocked down by a motor car on March 12.
