FAREWELL TO STAN. LAY

SATURDAY EVENING’S ’ CARNIVAL.

Special efforts are being made- to mark the regard in which Stan. Lay is held by all residents by holding a grand- farewell carnival on Saturday evening in High Street. The trustees of the fund. Messrs. AY.’ A. Spragg, 11. L. Sprat! and M. R. .Tones, assisted by willing helpers, are making elaborate preparations. In High Street, at the intersections of Princes and of Victoria Streets, there will he concert parties, while in the centre there will he a Maori party giving instrumental and vocal items. This party will also give a farewell in Maori by Scotty Panemri to. Mr Lay, interpreted by Mr. .Tones, while a little Maori girl will sing a specially composed Maori song of farewell. _ A civic farewell will also he- given by his Worship the Mayor (Mr. E. A. Pneey). In addition the proprietress of the Savov rooms and the management of the ’ Winter Show Company- have generously given the- use- of a hall. At the Savoy there will he- a dance, with music by orchestra.
