The Southern Chinese advance is enveloping Shantung and the Japanese resident's are appealing to the Government for protection. Cabinet is considering the despatch of a protective force. Meanwhile two cruisers and four destroyers are at Tsingtau in readiness for a landing party in the event of its necessity. It is announced that about 200 marines aboard the warship Iva.suga will leave Yokohama for Tsingtau on Saturday with three warships to exercise precautions at Tsingtau pending the arrival of more marines.
A. later message .states that the Southerners have captured Ichowpu. 120 miles south of Tsingtao, indicating the serious collapse of the Northern lilan of campaign. Japan does not intend to evacuate her nationals, preparing to defend them in Situ.
