SHEEP DOG TRIALS

RECORD ENTRIES RECEIVED. HAW ERA MEETING! OPENS TO-MORROW. There have been many good meetings iie.d by the Hawera Sheep Dog Trial Club in the course of its lhe or twentyseven years, but this year’s bids fair to outstrip all previous meetings. The entries, which closed on Saturday evening, prove to be a record lor the club, all classes being excellently filled.

The competing dogs come from as far nortii as Te Kuiti, ancl from all parts of Taranaki and the coast, and include many of the best dogs from that wide area. • Lind’s, Mclntyre’s, and Scott’s dogs, as well as all the other recent winners, will be there to-morrow when the meeting opens, and as a special attraction for Wednesday, People’s Day, the executive has arranged to stage the oig events. In addition to substantial prize moneys there are many valuable trophies. Mrs. M. Cramp’s 25 guinea cup will go to the winner of the long head, the Bennett and Sutton Cup for the two open heading events with one dog, the Tongahoe Cup for maiden clogs, and the Scott Challenge Cup for the huntaway. The luncheon and tea arrangements will lie under the control and direction of a committee of ladies under Miss Corrigan, assisted by Girl Guides and Brownies. in view of the fact that these two useful bodies of girls do no canvassing ror funds, the committee decided to give them half the proceeds of the refreshment tent as an addition to their funds. It is hoped that the public will realise this and give liberal support to so good a cause. The location of the trials will be the land at Taiporohenui, on Mr. Corcoran’s farm at the bottom of the hill. This is easily accessible by good roads, a ton minutes’ drive, and it is hoped that many townspeople will avail themselves of the opportunity to witness demonstrations of an attractive sport.
