CASH ATHLETICS.
SPORTS AT MANAIA HIBERNIAN ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL GATHERING'. Athletic contestants, from all parts of the province and from as far afield as Morrinsville were seen in action on the Manaia Domain this afternoon at the annual gathering of the Manaia Hibernian Sports Club. In marked contrast with the previous Saturday when heavy rain caused the postponement of the competitions, the association was favoured with brilliant sunshine from a cloudless sky to-day. Dry, fast tracks afforded favourable conditions . for speedy performances and many exciting contests were witnessed by the large crowd round the enclosure.
Supplementing the athletic attractions were a number of contests in national dancing which added to the general interest.
Under the supervision of a competent band of officials, who combined with the president (Mr. J. A. Hansen) ane the secretary (Mr. W. J. Badiley), the various events were presented in quick succession. Results received up to. the time “The Star" went to press were as follow:

Cate 3 In leading position F. Tottey fell just short of the tape, YVatson getting home by inches from Shaw, with Cate a foot back. Time, 12 l-ssec. Payne ' Finnis held command ever the last lap until half way down the straight when Boeoek challenged and got up with a thrilling finish to take first money by half a wheel with the third man a length away. Finnis 3 Bellringer went out over the first lap and held command until almost home, but was beaten by inches when the scratch man came with a wonderful finish from fourth position at the straight entrance. Scott 3 Scott went to the lead over the first hnrlrred yards and had a narrow margin into the straight, but from a bunched field over the last ten yards Tottey got through to win by a good yard -with less than a yard separating Noonan from Scott, who was just in front of R.
