LORD HIGH CHANCELLOR.
SIR DOUGLAS HOGG APPOINTED

It is officially announced that bir Louglas Hogg, Attorney-uenera 1, becomes cord High Chancellor in succession to Viscount Cave, who has resigned owing to ill-health. Sir Douglas Hogg, who receives a barony, is succeeded as Attorney by the Solicitor-General, Sir Thomas Insaip, who in turn is succeeded by Mr. Frank Merriman, M.P. < Mr. Merrinian receives a knighthood, and Lord Cave receives an earldom. LONDON, March 29. The Rt. Hon. Stanley Baldwin ashed Lord Birkenhead to resume the Lord Chancellorship, but the latter preferred to remain at the India Office in view of the importance of Indian Affairs. Sir Charles Hogg’s acceptance of the Chancellorship surprised his friends in the House or Commons, where he was regarded as having a brilliant career before him. No doubt he himself preferred to remain in the House, but deferred to the wishes of the Prime Minister.
