HAWFjRiA LADIES’ CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. There was a very satisfactory attendance of members, about thirty being present, at the annual meeting or the Hawera Ladies’ Golf Club last night in the borough chambers, when the review o.f the past season’s work was presented and arrangements made for the coming season. ' The report of the committee; recorded a very successful season from all points of view. , , The financial statement disclosed a satisfactory position. The expenditure this year included the cost of the junior championship cup and honour board, £9 7s 6d. . , The membership, strength Of the club has. been steadily maintained, and trie standard of play has shown considerable improvement, stated the report. A wet mid-winter interfered with play for a number of weeks, but the latter portion of the season brought forth stone very gootUgolf and a remarkable' number ol handicap reductions. The silver medal division lias grown in numbers from nine to 15, and first handicaps have been earned' by eight players. The championships were closely contested, and hearty epngratulatioais were offered to Miss EL Burgess' on becoming club champion. The committee. also congratulated Mrs. Thomson. _ runner-up, for senior ohampionshp, Miss D. HawTsen, winner of the junior championship, .and Miss H. Burgess, junior runner-up, as well as tlie winners of the Tonk’s Rose Bowl and the McLean Memorial trophy.. Miss I>. Biehardson .and Miss U. G. Robertson. ' Matches were played with the following club 9 : Enthgtn (at Elthain and Hawera), Waverley and Stratford (At Hawera), and New Plymouth (twice at New Plymouth). In conjunction with each of the last mentioned matches a challenge match for the Taplin Cup was played, but the team, was unable to bring the cup to Hawera, thought the first match, which was; played under very bad weather conditions, resulted in. a draw. Efforts' were made to arrange matches with the. Belmont and Seafield Clubs at Wanganui, and-for a return match against New Plymouth at Hawera. but these could not be brought off, the long distances probably being responsible. During the season Mrs. French, the president of the club. found_ it necessary to resign her office. Her resignation was accepted with regret by the committee, which desires to place on record its appreciation of her valuable services to the club during her long term O.f office, as a committee member, .secretary, captain and president. Her place was filled for the remainder of the year by Mrs. Dalgety, vice-president, and Miss E. Burgess was appointed to fill the vacancy 011 the committee. At the invitation of the Hawera Golf Club, the ladies’ club joined in the organisation of a golf ball which proved a very successful function. Much of its success was due to Mrs. Dalgety, at the head of an energetic committee' drawn from the ladies’ club. The season was brought to. ail end with a most successful closing day on November 5, when tlie usual competitions were played, and the trophies won during the season were presented by Mr. Hay-Mackenzie, president of the Hawera Golf Club. The thanks of the club are due to all those members who so kindly presented the trophies which were played for during the season.
