LAY TO GO.
OFFICIAL ADVICE RECEIVED. TELEGRAM FROM OLYMPIC ASSOCIATION. This morning Mr W. A. Spragg, president of the Hawera Am ate hr Athletic Association, telegraphed to the secretary of the New Zealand Olympic Association asking to be advised officially whether S. Lay, of Hawera, the javelin thrower, had been definitely Selected as one of New Zealand’s representatives at the Olympic Games to be held at Amsterdam. This action on the part of the elub’S president was rendered necessary by reason of the fact that neither Mr Lay nor the club had received any intimation regarding the athlete’s selection other than that which. had appeared in the newspapers. The reply Mr, Spragg received to-day from Mr Cr. B. Aldridge, organising secretary of the association, was as follows: Yes, Lay definitely selected. Suggest you call a public meeting in Hawera for Monday next, which I will attend. Advise if ajrranged. “The Hawera Star’’ has been asked by the Athletic Club to open .a subscription list, and this office' has undertaken to receive on behalf of the local trustees any monies forwarded as contributions to the Olympic Giimes Fund.
