HAWERA TRACK NOTES AND TOPICS. Caretaker Morse had the outside of the course proper open this morning lor horses engaged at the Ea-ster meetings. The going was good, though not fast. Interesting woric was performed as indicated below: - C. Jackson sent Benzora, and Vivo over half a mile together, the pair finishing on even terms in 52sec. Partaga, the other member of the team, was given pace work •on the sand tracks
Elea finished well in front of Land Rent over four furlongs in 53 l-ssec. J. Brown’s pair, Silvermine and Silver- Rule, were companions in a halfmile sprint. Silver Rule jumped out first, getting a break of a couple of lengths, which the colt made up, the pair finishing together in 52isec. Orcades and Airtight were restricted to pace work. Reremoana and 'Barryahda, worked separately, the former running his half in 51 3-ssec., the mare taking 52^-sec. Orazone and Gasnapper did steadypace work. Recent racing has improved Gasnapper, and Martin Conwayshould soon lead him in a winner. Great interest was taken in Bright Glow’s ettort over six furlongs. Starting from the winning post and going the Auckland way round, she gave Paitonu a chain start, catching him in two and a half furlongs and running to the half-mile post in. 53sec., finishing the six furlongs in 1.21. It was a good performance, considering the ground covered and the manner in which it was performed. Bright Glow is in excellent condition and promises to strip fitter than ever for her Easter engagements. Lady 7 Cavendish went a round of the sand, and Black Odin, Coolmint and Egeria were exercised on the two-year-old track.
Lady Desmond and Bisox cantered once round and then galloped from the six-furlong peg. Lady Desmond had a break on her companion at three furlongs, which Bisox reduced as they neared the finish, a length separating the pair in 1.22 1-5. Mr. Bailey, of Wanganui, was present to see his fine-looking two-year-old exercised. This English-bred horse has had the gear on him only for a week or two, but is beautifully mannered and promises well.
O. Cox has decided on Christchurch for his team at Easter, and will leave on Monday next with Reremoana, Lady Desmond, and Barryanda. J. Barry is to do the riding. Bright Glow is well treated in the Eastei Handicap at Auckland and will make the trip. J. Fryer leaves with the mare on Friday next. Fryer has also received a cordial invitation to accept with Paitonu and Whisogne, the former especially having been well treated.
Bright Glow will be ridden in the Auckland Easter Handicap by L G. Morris.
C. Jackson’s team, Benzora, Vivo, and Partagn are booked for Fcilding at Easter, also J. Brown’s team comprising Orazone, Bisox, and Silvermine. Lady Anstruther having gone a bit sore has been turned out for a spell. Golden Flower, also in J. Flyer’s stable, is being given a let-up. Fka, in charge of her owner, Dick Fryer, left for Masterton this morning. Eka is very well just now, and should again run well on Friday and Saturday.
