OHAWE.

The spell of dry weather recently experienced was bioken on Saturday, and the rain continued till early on Sunday morning, when the day broke line, enabling a large number to pay a visit to the beach.. Owing to the heavy sui t sea bathing was not indulged in, the river again being res&rted to. At the present time the bathing ai-eas are up to requirements, with the exception of that in the vicinity of Schnapper Bay, where, owing to the strong undertow, bathers are warned not to venture too far out. It would lie an advantage to the public if a notice pointing out this dangerous spot were erected, also a suitable rope for use in case of accident. It is understood the improvement committee intends to deal with this matter. The motor launch ltaumiro was out on three occasions during the _ week, the results being on the small side. On Friday last many large shoals of kahawai were seen between the Inaha and Waingongoro rivers quite close inshore. There being no fishermen on the scene, the fish were undisturbed. Arrangements are in hand by Mr. Ripene to secure an up-to-date hauliftg plant for the purpose of pulling the fishing boats up to the sheds. This will prove a great acquisition and overcome the difficulty now being experienced. A four-roomed cottage for Mr. E. Shefield, on his property at Oliawe, is in course of erection. Others are to .ollow shortly. Miss I). Oliver (Stratford) is at present on a visit to her sister, Mrs. A E. Trask, at the beach. There is still a good demand for metal from the beach, the teams being kept busy. The quality during the last week has been excellent. The contractors are compelled to go a considerable distance to secure what is required. A number of owners of residences spent the week-end at the beach.
