FAREWELL TO MRS. CRAWFORD.
Mrs. W. Crawford, who is leaving at the end of the month for New Plymouth, was the guest of the afternoon at a pleasing function held at the local croquet greens on Wednesday. . The members of the club assembled in full to entertain Mrs. Crawford who has been not. only one of the club’s strongest players, but also one of its most willing workers. • . At the conclusion: of afternoon tea, Mr. E. 6. Horner (secretary) said that they were indeed sorry to part with Mrs. Crawford, who would be greatly missed from the courts. On behalf of the members he asked Mrs. Crawford to' accept a handsome broach of a very novel design—that of a croquet mallet and ball.
Mrs. Crawford replied in a witty speech and sincerely thanked one and all for their beautiful present and wished the club every success in the future.
PERSONAL. Rev. Father B. O’Connor, of Takapuna, returned to Patea from Opunake on Thursday. Mr. J. Benbow, q! Takapau, H. 8., who has been spending a few days in this district, left Patea on Thursday for Palmerston North.
CASES. OF SICKNESS. The school attendance is being affected by an epidemic of dhickenpox. On? case of scarlet fever has also been notified.
