SERIOUS CHARGES.
ALLEGED FORGERY AND UTTERING. HAWERA RESIDENT CHARGED. Following on the charge of attempting to obtain by means of a valueless cheque goods and cash to the value of £8 from David Strachan, a middleaged man named Harold Middleton Lee, described as a farmer, of Haw era, was brought .before Messrs J. S. Murray and R. W. J. McNeill, J.’sP., yesterday, on two further charges of forging the name of J. Winks to two charges for £9 7s and £3, and uttering same to Messrs George and Doughty Ltd. and Adamson and Robb respectively. Accused, for whopi Mr O’Dea. appeared, was remanded till to-morrow, when all three charges will be taken together. Bail, which was fixed earlier in the day at £SO and one surety of a similar amount, was increased to £IOO and two sureties of £SO.
At his own request a prohibition order was issued against accused.
