PERSONAL ITEMS
Members of the Australian touring cricket team are expected to arrive in Hawera this evening, and- will be guests at the- Central Hotel. They leave for the south to-morrow morning.
Mr. R. J. Linn, of New Plymouth, formerly of Normanby, is on a short visit to' Hawera, and is to proceed to Waverley to officiate as judge- of the Jersey cattle section of the show to be held there. The Hon. O. J. H-awken, Minister of Agriculture, is experiencing a busy week, as, after opening the Normanby Horticultural Society’s Show yesterday, the Minister left to -attend the annual conference of State Forest Service officers at Rotorua. He will leave Rotorua on Friday for Wellington. Mr E. P. Beauchamp, stationmaster at Hawera, who has been promoted to Wellington, will -not be leaving Hawera for a week or two, as, acting on medical advice, Mr Beauchamp will undergo a slight -operation before proceeding to the scene of his new duties. Mr P. O. Veale, 8.A., M.-Se., of the Hawera dairy laboratory, has received advice that he has been elected an associate of the Institute of Chemists of Great Britain and Ireland.
