According to Sydney booksellers, ther is a distinct decline in the demand for the sex novel, which was all the vogue two or three years ago. It is only “flappers” who ask for it now. The general demand is for the historical noTel. Here are some representative opinions: Angus and Kobertson: “The demand for the sex novel has gone. AVe sold a lot; but readers have tired of that kind of stuff Australian readers to-day want clean .stuff with a love interest. Dymock’s: “There is practically no demand for the sex novel to-day. The best seller is the historical novel — .such books as those of Sabatini and Wren —with a mystery or detective story well up in the list; and then the humorous writing of such men as Wodehouse and Leacock.” The reaction seems complete, ami is to be welcomed. “He’s a good ’usband, Sir, mostly, but e's like a bear with a soye ’ead when ’e don’t get ’is pipe, and it don’t always to it,” a poorly-dressed woman "told the magistrate at an East End of London Police Court when giving evidence against her husband for assault. The magistrate smiled sympathetically. He evidently knew from personal experience the soothing and tranquilising effects of the weed. But there are tobaccos and tobaccos. Hom e brand R are just rank with nicotine and cannot be indulged in constantly with impunity. About the safest tobaccos on the market are those grown and manufactured in New Zealand. They are all toasted, and contain so little nicotine that there is no fear of developing “Smoker’s Heart,” this distressing malady or nerve trouble. These tobaccos appeal to all smokers, and the 'more you smoke them the better you like them. That’s why they are meeting with such a large sale. Ask any tobacconist for “Itiverhead Gold,” mild; “Navy Cut” (Bulldog).'medium ; or “Cut Plcg No. 10” (Bullsbead), full Btrengtb. 45
